How is scale eliminated when neither the
Scalewatcher unit nor the coils are in contact with the
water?
The Scalewatcher unit works by producing an
electronically applied field generated by a coil wrapped
around the pipe. The fluids (usually water based) come under
the influence of this field such that the mineral ions are
forced to precipitate. (Controlled precipitation). These
precipitates (crystals) flow down the drain with the liquid
flow.
How can I tell if it's working? - What to
look for:
In around 4 to 6 weeks you should notice:
The softening of scale around the basins
Scale flaking away from the kettle element and shower rose
Water often feels silkier
Water feeling hotter, improved performance of washing
machines and dishwashers.
The ability to reduce the amount of soap, shampoo,
detergents and cleaners
Easier cleaning of surfaces, especially baths, basins and
sinks
Do Scalewatcher units produce a strong
magnetic field?
No. The magnetic field strength is extremely
low. Lower than the magnetic field of our earth.
Does it affect the drinking water?
Water remains chemically unchanged, retaining
the beneficial minerals and tastes the same so you do not
need a separate drinking tap.
How easy is it to install?
Do it yourself installation is quick and
simple - and does not re-quire a plumber or the cutting of
pipes.
1- Locate the pipe where your water supply first enters your
building.
2- Wrap the signal cable around the pipe according to the
instruction manual for lasting protection of the whole
property.
3- Connect the signal cable to the Scalewatcher unit and
plug into the mains outlet. Easy installation also means
that, should you move, Scalewatcher™ is simple to disconnect
and to take with you
Do the 3 Star and 5 Star have the same output
strength?
The 3 Star is for inside and the 5 Star for
outside use. This means that the coil of the 5 Star can
become wet which causes the induction in the water to become
less. To overcome this we make for instance the 5 Star
stronger than a 3 Star.
Where does the scale that is removed go?
As the scale does not stick to pipe work and
appliances it all goes down the drain.
Can I install the unit?
As no plumbing is involved most customers
install the unit themselves and it should take no more than
30 minutes, or you can use a local handy man or electrician.
What do I check once I have the Scalewatcher
installed?
Ensure the power supply is on and periodic
checks of the LED indicators are sufficient.
How much does it cost to run?
The power of the 5 Star is 10 W, so the
energy consumption will be 0.01 kWh. Your electricity bill
will give you the price you pay per kWh. Multiply 0.01 with
this amount which will give you the cost of the unit to
operate during one hour.
What pipe material is suitable?
The unit can be fitted on copper, plastic,
galvanized steel or lead pipes.
Where should the unit be installed?
The ideal place is where the water enters the
house, so all the water is treated. But if necessary it can
be installed more downstream.
How much pipe is needed for installation?
To install the unit you require four inch of
straight pipe. This can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal
pipe. However you can treat two pipes with one unit.
What if it does not work?
We can normally solve most problems. If we
can't you get your money back.
What about rumors that water softeners (ion
exchangers) are not allowed anymore?
There are areas in the United States where it
is not allowed to install certain types of salt using water
softeners, in order to reduce the chlorine discharge in the
environment.
I learned that in a Cage of Faraday there is
no field possible to exist and an iron pipe is a kind of
Cage of Faraday. How can the Scalewatcher be effective?
First of all an iron or copper pipe is not a
Cage of Faraday. Second, Scalewatcher generates an electric
and magnetic field. A Cage of Faraday will attenuate an
electric field to zero inside the cage. However, this is not
applicable for the magnetic field. A conductive pipe of
infinite length can be considered to be a Cage of Faraday so
one can expect that the electric field will be attenuated
(but not to zero) inside the pipe. Therefore the treatment
will work on iron and copper pipes, thanks to the presence
of the attenuated electric field and full strength magnetic
field..

My experience is that when the water
softener works too well, reducing the hardness to almost
zero, we get heavy corrosion of our copper pipes. Do we
have the same problem with Scalewatcher?
For what kind of applications can I use the
commercial series?
Some examples: Small hotels, restaurants,
dentists, hair dressers, car washers, swimming pools,
poultry farms (cooling pads), farming, golf courses. In
short, where potable water is used.
Do the CM2 and CMN2 have the same output
strength?
The CM series is for inside and the CMN2
series for outside use. This means that the coil of the CMN
series can become wet which causes the induction in the
water to become less. To overcome this we make for instance
the CMN2 stronger than a CM2 for a 2" pipe.
Can I use a domestic unit for a commercial
application?
Yes you can and you may have good results.
However your Warranty and Performance Guarantee are void.
I want to dismantle my water softener as soon as I installed
my commercial Scalewatcher.
Only dismantle your salt using water softener when you are
fully satisfied about your purchase.
Is it a must to wrap the wire in the water
flow direction?
No. Scalewatcher generates a magnetic and
electric field changing direction all the time, the average
values being zero. Therefore flow direction is not to be
taken in consideration.
In my hotel of 500 rooms I want to stop using
the water softener when the Scalewatcher is performing. Do
you expect any unforeseen problems?
The kitchen may give problems, especially the
dishwasher. When water evaporates from the glasswork it will
leave White spots (the mineral crystals formed by the
treatment). These are easy to clean. If you do not want to
see the White spots so you can prevent additional hand
cleaning, you will have to install a small water softener
for the dishwasher. However before you install the
additional small water softener check whether you get the
White spots in the first place.
My experience is that when the water softener
works too well, reducing the hardness to almost zero, we get
heavy corrosion of our copper pipes. Do we have the same
problem with Scalewatcher?
Certainly not. The treatment by Scalewatcher
does not increase copper ions in the water as shown by
research of the Dutch KIWA.

What's the task of a Scalewatcher unit in
a chemical treated water system which is already treated
and the process does not allow to stop this che-mical
treatment?
What models are available for Industry?
For the smaller pipes up to 16" the following
models are used: SE4, SE8, LE12 and LE16. For pipes with a
diameter larger than 16" the following models are available:
HIME24, HIME40, HIME80 and HIME120. In addition the
following models are used where the TDS and hardness levels
are moderate: IE2, IE4 and IE8.
Where can I apply the Industrial series?
Some examples: Large hotels, municipal
swimming pools, paper factories, metal factories, food
Industry, chemical factories.
Can I use a domestic or commercial unit for
an Industrial application?
Yes you can and you may have some results.
However your Warranty and Performance Guarantee are void.

my Industrial Scalewatcher.
Only dismantle your salt using water softener when you are
fully satisfied about your purchase.
In my hotel of 500 rooms I want to use an
Industrial Scalewatcher to protect my cooling tower and
chiller. What can I expect?
You can expect that you will have less
complaints from your guests about the air conditioning. Also
you will save in water (at least 50 %) and energy. Not to
forget that you will have less maintenance.
What's the task of a Scalewatcher unit in a
chemical treated water system which is already treated and
the process does not allow to stop this che-mical treatment?
Chemicals do not work always for 100 %. The
synergistic effect of che-micals and Scalewatcher may
increase this percentage. An example is super steam water
tube steam boilers. No way that chemicals or other water
treatment systems can be stopped. Nevertheless scale
problems can be present. In this case Scalewatcher should be
installed in addition to the present treatment.
